As soon as Xeno was finished with his final class of the day he went straight to the garden. It wasn’t a place that students often ventured to and he was glad he’d been correct in thinking that it would be empty. He looked around, took out his wand, and began to create little…
Xeno stood and waited. He knew he hadn’t specified a time with her but he liked it a little better that way. It was not only a surprise to her but to him as well. For her, the main surprise would be the garden all lit up by the little balls of light he’d created. For him, he thought it would be her arrival, but he had no idea the other surprise she had up her sleeve. His heart was beating a little faster than normal with anticipation of her arrival—or, Merlin forbid, lack of arrival.
After several minutes of waiting, he heard something ahead of him and he looked up from the grass that his eyes had been so fixated on. Large, blue eyes wandered up to see a young woman walking toward him. With the lights that he’d created silhouetting her, he didn’t even begin to think that it was Mary he was looking at. The thought never crossed his mind. At first he felt a little embarrassed by the show and he knew he couldn’t just ask the girl to leave a public place but she continued to approach him and he got a little uncomfortable.
As soon as she stepped into the light, his jaw dropped. She quickened her pace a little and walked straight to him. He opened his arms to take her in but he was still in shock. After a moment of loosely hanging his arms around her he pulled her in tighter. “Mar…” This was the only thing that would come out at first. “How?” Great. He couldn’t make coherent sentences. A fine Ravenclaw he had turned out to be. He chuckled a little at the thought but mainly out of pure happiness. The fact that she’d been unable to walk had not changed anything at all in Xeno’s mind but now that she could, he was overjoyed. He pulled out of the hug a little and placed a gentle kiss to her lips. His head lingered near hers so that their noses were very close.
Mary smiled as they looked at each other. She laughed. It was one of the rare few times he stuttered and she found it rather adorable. “Tom, it was him who healed my legs.” she said and brushed some hair from his face. She smiled widely as he kissed her. His head lingered near her and she smiled and rubbed their noses slightly and giggled. “You look extra handsome today.” she said truthfully and kissed him again.
She pulled away and looked at the beautiful garden as she wrapped her arms around him. “So what’s the occasion?” she asked and sighed.
Tom made Xeno uncomfortable every once in a while. He knew that Tom was one of Mary’s best friends which was he held his tongue, but the bloke just seemed a little off. He smiled, though. He was just glad that she was alright and able to walk again, more so for her than for him. He knew she must have been beside herself when he healed her. His cheeks flushed for a moment when she commented on his appearance and he glanced down at the ground. “Thank you,” he replied, taking the compliment in stride. He’d had to learn how to take compliments when he and Mary started getting close. It didn’t happen constantly but it did happen and that was something he was not accustomed to.
“You look radiant,” he commented as he studied her. She looked beautiful, as usual, but she also looked like she was glowing. Whether it had to do with the little lights he’d created to float over their heads, or the fact that she could walk again was unimportant to him. She was like the sunshine that unclouded his usually busy mind and just allowed him to smile and relax. He wrapped his arms around her waist and reeled her in. “I wanted to do something.. To make up for missing the ball,” he answered simply. He brought his left hand around to pull his wand out of his coat pocket and he flicked it toward a circle of hedges that the gramophone was hiding behind and music began to play. He stowed the wand away again and returned his hand to its position around her waist as he slowly began to sway them a little to the music.

He looked around, took out his wand, and began to create little balls of floating light with his wand. They hovered just over the garden and didn’t wander. The flowers and plants were decorations in themselves, which is why Xeno had picked it. He walked over and made sure the gramophone he’d hidden behind a large circle of bushes was still there; it was.
After he was done with all of this he took a suit-type outfit out of his bag. It wasn’t an incredibly formal thing because he’d never quite felt like himself when he was very formal; but it was nice enough to match something nice that Mary wore on a daily basis, even in her wheelchair she always looked stunning. Xeno looked up at the sky to see that the sun was beginning to set. He took his place behind a large group of taller shrubbery and now all that was left to do was wait for Mary. He hoped she would show up since it was sort of sprung on her at the last minute, but he was sure she would.
